Thanks for giving us a try. We're working on making things simpler and easier to Administer for basic "blog" sites (our niche has been more enterprise level sites that need way more options, we have to keep working on simplifying things for those who just want to blog). Different skins offer different feature options, for example, this template that you are using doesn't have a "module" area on the home page, while other templates do, and those would allow you to have the latest blog post automatically appear (or some other module). Usually it's due to a design constraint, not every design easily allows a totally dynamic area... part of the balance of trying to keep things looking nice. Of course for pro sites, anything can be customized from the ground up.

But now that I look at this home page, that area could probably support a Promo Module area... Yes, I just added it for this template. And I added a "latest blog list" area there for you. If you don't like it, you can delete the promo module, and your welcome text will then be used instead.
